Flounder Gigging Charter - West Galveston Bay
Josh & Cooper Cruising West Galveston Bay
Flounder gigging combines elements of hunting and fishing
and gives you a new perspective on the bay and the creatures
it holds.  You'll stay dry and gig from the brightly lit deck
while I work the boat along the shallow shorelines and reefs
to put us on the flounder.  Everything you need is provided.

The boat is a 17' customized flat-bottom G3 equipped with
40hp Yamaha to move us through the bay.  When gigging, we
switch over to an air-motor mounted on the back rack that
allows the boat to move slowly through the shallow waters.
The front rack of the boat functions as a safety bar to lean
against;  it also houses the boat's 600 watts of light and
air-motor steering components.

West Galveston Bay - Gigging For Southern Flounder
Mess of Flounder
Biologists claim that few males
grow larger than 14", which is
the minimum legal size flounder
that may be taken.  The females
commonly reach 16 - 18"  and
I consider anything over 20" to
be a nice one.  The difference
between a 19" flounder and a
21" flounder is significant;  the
extra 2" adds a lot of thickness
and overall weight to the fish.
