Aoudad, also known as Barbary Sheep, offer some of the best
pursuit for serious hunters. Elusive and wary, aoudad will
usually be found in the steepest, most difficult spot to reach.
After climbing to their precarious heights, the hunter must still
sneak in carefully to get in range without spooking the beast.
The name Barbary Sheep was given to aoudad by the native
Berbers of North Africa, but aoudad are officially designated
as a goat. They typically live about twenty years and can
reach weights of 300 lbs. Most hunters measure an aoudad
by the size of its horns, which are present on both the male
and females. The horns can reach 28 inches, with a nice
trophy measuring up to 34 inches.
